Location
Nizamabad Fort is located in Nizamabad district of Andhra Pradesh.
The place is located some 200 kilometres far from the capital city,
that is Hyerabad and towards the north west of it. The place lies
close to the Maharashtra state border.
Overview
Nizamabad Fort was built in 10th century A.D. on top of a hillock
that lies to the south west of the town. The fort was built by the
Rashtraputha rulers who occupied the lands at that time. The fort
stands at an elevation of about 300 metres. The fort has been
occupied by great many rulers due to the constant change of the
ruling power in the region. A number of additions were made to the
original fort from time to time.
Features
Nizamabad Fort is known for its historical importance and some
religious sites located within the fort compound. There is a Rama
Temple built within the fort premises which is very popular. The
temple built by the famous king Chatrapathi Shivaji features
spacious corridors, mundaps and mahamundaps. Also located in the
fort are some ancient artifacts belonging to an ancient Jain
dynasty.
